Britain’s Got YouTube! |
 |
|
News from Audition Land. It seems that Britain’s Got Talent (BGT) took a good look at the Dutch variant The Voice Of Holland. This last one began its selections by giving contestants the opportunity to upload a 30 sec. videoclip of their at-home auditions. These where then checked and rated by internet viewers and a professional jury as well.
With BGT this will more likely also be the case. On the special YouTube channel (regional restriction warning) candidates can upload their effort. From there a short-list of the best 50 auditions can be viewed on the BGT website. Eventually 20 contestants will be selected to proceed to the television show to perform in front of the jury, which consists of David Hasselhoff, Michael McIntyre and Amanda Holden.
The YouTube channel, which is live since April 12 2008, has a total of 182K subscribers. Off course this number has grown to this level in 3 years. The channel itself is visited more than 8 million times. Additionally, the 143 videos which are broadcasted on this channel have a combined total of views of more than 478 million.

A new step for YouTube and its users. The company has created a complete Institute for the very creative ones. Together with The University of Southern California School of Cinematic Arts and the Columbia College Chicago’s Television Department the YouTube Creator Institute was developed. With this new course participants will learn from a unique new media curriculum, apply new media tools, find out how to build their audiences and from story arcing to cinematography, money-making strategies to social media tactics.
The wider YouTube community will follow the participants development closely since the fruit of their lawings will be placed on YouTube itself. According to YouTube’s Bing Chen can any U.S. citizen over the age of 18 apply online from now until March 25. Applications include two short answer questions and a maximum two-minute demonstration of the creator’s craft, whether it be a short film, a clip of a personal cooking show, or a snapshot of a nature expedition. Afterwards, the YouTube community will vote for two weeks between March 28 and April 8 for their favorite creators. The top voted candidates will move on to the final round, where YouTube’s film and television school partners will choose the inaugural class for each of their programs.
