Gatorade's Social Media Control Centre
We have covered the importance of brand monitoring in previous newsletters. And many brands are starting to realise the insights and strategically relevant information social media monitoring delivers, but none are taking this as serious as Gatorade.
Gatorade's Social Media Control Centre Gatorade has teamed up with Radian6 and IBM to create a customised solution which would make NASA engineers jealous! The data visualisations and dashboards are helping Gatorade’s marketing team stay on top of all the latest buzz and conversations about the brand in social media.

Screen Domination – The YouTube Mission
YouTube has been very busy the past month, so we have even more news to share about the world’s largest video portal. They are increasingly looking to make headway on screens other than our PCs and have recently launched their new mobile website as well as a product called Leanback.

Their mobile version of YouTube is currently serving over 100 million playbacks a day and their newly launched mobile site will compete head-on with Apple’s YouTube application.

On Leanback, the company said: “They [the feed videos] play in full screen and high definition, continuously. There's no need to click, search, or browse, unless you want to, of course. Watching YouTube becomes as easy as watching TV.”
Screen Domination – The YouTube MissionOn the future vision, Hunter Walk, director of product management said “Now you just say ‘these are the videos I watch and I watch them wherever I happen to be, or whoever I happen to be with’. We are going to have a world where people increasingly expect their content to be available to them on anything with a screen, whether that be a computer, a phone or a tv. That is the vision.”

Mindblowing Social Media Statistics
Jake Hird has revised his very useful list of social media statistics. Of course the online video related statistics caught our attention.

For example, did you know that 46 years worth of YouTube content is watched on Facebook each day?

From an advertising perspective it’s interesting to see that 94 of AdAge’s top 100 advertisers have used the platform for their campaigns, the number of advertisers using display advertising on the platform has grown by 1,000% and YouTube is monetising over 1 billion views each month.

Whilst it’s great to see the platform maturing and large advertisers are starting to take notice, we do believe it is important to point out that YouTube is more than just another vehicle to stick an ad on.

Instead of buying yet more banners, why not focus on how you can attract an engaged audience that helps you spread the message instead of having it rammed down their throats? And of course it is imperative to measure how the message spreads in social media.
